Mini Whale Amigurumi – Free Crochet Pattern

This adorable mini whale is a quick and easy amigurumi project, perfect for beginners and great as a gift, keychain, or desk companion. Follow this simple step-by-step pattern to create your own little ocean friend.

Materials Needed

  • Worsted weight yarn
  • 6 mm safety eyes (1 pair)
  • Polyfil stuffing
  • Crochet hook suited for worsted weight yarn
  • Yarn needle and scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • inc – increase (2 sc in same st)
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • f/o – fasten off

Pattern Instructions

Body (make 1)

Round 1: Using body color, ch 2. Sc 6 into 2nd ch from hook. (6)

Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12)

Round 3: *Sc in next st, inc*. Repeat from * around. (18)

Round 4: Sc in each st around. (18)

Rounds 5–6: Repeat Round 4. F/o and weave in ends.

Note: Attach safety eyes between the 5th and 6th rounds, 4 stitches apart.

Belly (make 1)

Round 1: Using belly color, ch 2. Sc 6 into 2nd ch from hook. (6)

Round 2: Inc in each st around. (12)

Round 3: *Sc in next st, inc*. Repeat from * around. (18)

F/o and leave a long tail for sewing.

Tail (make 1)

Ch 3. Turn, sc into 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next st. Ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st into side of next st. Ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st into next st. Continue making sl st until you reach bottom of first st. F/o and leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

  • Sew the belly to the body, begin stuffing halfway through and continue until full. Weave in ends.
  • Sew the tail into the 6th row of the body, directly behind the eyes on the opposite side.
