Jellyfish Babies – FREE Pattern

Materials

  • About 7g of worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn (4) – Red Heart Super Saver in Retro Stripes
  • Two 6 mm safety eyes
  • 3.50 mm crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill for stuffing (optional)
  • Yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • BLO = back loops only
  • inc = increase – 2 sc in the same stitch
  • mr of n sc = crochet n single crochet stitches into the magic ring
  • sc = single crochet
  • sc2tog = single crochet two together (decrease)
  • sc n = crochet n single crochet stitches, one in each stitch
  • (sc 4, inc) x n = repeat the pattern between parentheses n times
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • (36) = number of stitches in the round after completion

Notes

  • Use the Yarn Under technique for tighter stitches
  • Work in a spiral unless otherwise instructed
  • Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round

Pattern

Head

1. mr of 6 sc (6)

2. inc x6 (12)

3. (sc, inc) x6 (18)

4-5. sc around (18)

Insert the safety eyes between rounds 4 and 5 with 3 stitches in between.

6. BLO: sc2tog x9 (9)

Make a sl st in the next stitch and cut the yarn leaving a yarn tail.

Tentacles

With a 3.50 mm crochet hook, make 8 chains:

  • Four tentacles of 8 chains
  • Four tentacles of 12 chains

Leave about 2 cm and cut the yarn for each chain. Tie a knot at the end. Attach each tentacle into the stitches of round 6 alternating short and long chains. Tie a knot inside the belly. Stuff the head if needed. Close the opening.

Border

Holding the head up, join yarn into the first front loop of round 6.

1. sl st in the next st, (ch 1, sl st in the same st, sl st in the next 2 sts) x8 (8 spikes)

Cut the yarn and hide the tails.
